Our Learn to Skate Program

We follow the Learn to Skate USA curriculum, designed to help skaters of all ages and abilities master the basics of ice skating.

The curriculum ensures that everyone can learn the fundamentals, progress into more advanced levels and explore specialty classes that will introduce skaters to a wide variety of skating opportunities.

Class Descriptions

Snowplow Sam

This is an introductory program divided into four levels, allowing children ages 4-5 with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the basic skating skills. Classes are taught in a safe and positive environment, incorporating fun and games, making class time an enjoyable experience. Practice includes falling and recovery, marching in place, dips and one-foot balances.

Basic Skills

This program teaches the fundamentals of ice skating for skaters ages 6 to14 and provides a strong foundation for figure skating, hockey, and speedskating. Six levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters can advance to more specialized areas of skating. Skaters progress at their own rate and advance after skill mastery is demonstrated.

Fast Track Adult

The Adult curriculum is designed for both beginning and experienced adult skaters who wish to improve their skating skills. Participation in the program will help promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while teaching proper skating techniques. Divided into six levels from basic skating to more advanced skills, adult skaters will progress at an individual rate while being challenged and motivated.

WIA Academy/Pre-Free Skate through Free Skate 6

The Academy program is comprised of a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins and jumps — all of which build on the previous skill, providing skaters a strong foundation of all elements. Instructors will focus on quality and mastery of skills.

Adult Academy

Similar in structure to the WIA Academy class, for figure skaters 18 and above.

Junior Academy

An intensive :50 minutes of ice time for Basic 5-6 skaters to accelerate their skills acquisition and enable them to join the WIA Academy sooner than if they remained in the traditional :30 minute class.
